What is the structure of a dissertation introduction chapter?
Eight elements: 1) background / context, 2) problem statement, 3) aim, 4) research objectives, 5) research questions, 6) significance / contribution, 7) scope / delimitations, 8) structure of thesis. Each element earns part of the chapter.
How long should an introduction be?
PhD: 8,000-12,000 words. Master’s: 1,500-3,000. MPhil / MRes: 3,000-5,000. DBA / EdD: 5,000-10,000. We calibrate to your stage and discipline.
Why does the introduction matter so much?
Examiners and viva panels read the introduction with the deepest attention. A weak intro frames the whole dissertation badly; a strong one earns the benefit of the doubt across later chapters.
Will aim, objectives and research questions be aligned?
Yes. Misalignment is the most common red flag in viva. We engineer the spine of the dissertation so the panel cannot fault alignment.
Will contribution be stated explicitly?
Yes. Every dissertation must extend knowledge. We state the contribution explicitly (3-4 sentences) so examiners cannot miss it.
Do you use AI?
No. Examiners detect AI-generated introductions (templated, no hook). Every chapter human-written by a Chapter 1 specialist.
How fast can you deliver?
Standard 7-14 days for a full PhD introduction. Rush 5-day available. Master’s introductions 5-7 days.
